Hello all. I have a project that is purchasing graffiti remover for use on the exterior of the building. Do you have any guidance regarding VOC limits for this product? I am unable to find a similar product in any of the SCAQMD rule 1168, BAAQMD reg 8 rule 51, or GS-11 standards. The product has a VOC content right at 50 g/L. Thank you.

Hi Ryan, I don’t have guidance on a VOC limit, but if the product removes graffiti maybe it should be considered a cleaning product rather than a paint/sealant/coating. If that seems reasonable you could then assess it along with your other more typical facade cleaning purchases, like window cleaner. I would conservatively consider the graffiti remover non-compliant and then demonstrate that compliant cleaning products are used at least 20% of the time, by cost or volume. That’s one option I see anyway, if no one chimes in with experience with getting a graffiti remover through the review process.
