EBOM-2009 SSc5:Site Development—Protect or Restore Open Habitat

Performance Period for Recertification

For EBOM recertification purposes, my project is achieving SSc5 for the first time, through the off-site option. What I know: - For a first certification, we would get a contract to maintain an off-site area for the total performance period - 1 year; - Any credit pursued for the first time during recertification should be achieved by means of the requirements of a first certification. However I am not sure if in this credit there is any specific clause I might have missed, and have to make a contract equivalent to the 5 years of the new performance period. So my question is: - As this is our 2nd certification, and we haven't pursued this credit before, can I get a contract to maintain an off-site area for 1 year only? FYI, I got a contract value of $4,051/acre/year.

Hi Frances, Because you are submitting this credit for the first time in your second certification, you may treat this credit as if it is an initial certification (per the Recertification Guidance). This means that you only need to get a contract to maintain an off-site area as it aligns with the original credit requirements. When deciding on an organization to purchase an off-site contract with a good baseline for financial contribution can be found in the v4 Reference Guide, which specifies a financial $0.05 per square foot (approx. $2,100 per acre). The Nature Conservancy is a great resource to use for purchasing off-site protected areas. Hope this helps!

I was just looking into The Nature Conservancy's Adopt an Acre program and it seems largely ceremonial. Is there a program or a person that specifically protects/restores off-site protected areas you could point me to? Thanks!
