What types of cleaning products are often overlooked when documenting the credit?
I’ve heard that you can exclude certain types of trash liners. Is this true?
Do I need to track additional cleaning products like dust mops, brooms, spray bottles and the like?

Hello Louise!
While microfiber cleaning cloths are reusable and a smart choice for inclusion in a green cleaning program, "Any cleaning products and material class not covered by one of the applicable standards may be excluded."

Anna - I am tryinng to find out how the products my company manufactures fit into the LEED Point System or help orduce LEED Qualified points. We manufacture Cleainng Pads and Floor Cleaning pads that are UL Validated as using 100% PET Fiber in addition to our packaging being recycled content. In addition, I noticed on the website of one of the LArgest Suppliers of Cleaning Products under their Microfiber Products claiming them as producing LEED points most likely because of repeated use and lack of need for chemical and just using water or dry. We also, offer these products and I want to make sure I validate our claims within the LEED system so we can stand behind accurate statements and claims on our part. Thanks in advance for any response, direction and guidance.

Hello Robert,
Thank you for your post. While it sounds like your company is heading in the right direction with manufacturing cleaning pads and floor pads, they are not applicable in earning points towards LEED certification. Green Cleaning Products and Materials addresses: general purpose, bathroom, glass and carpet cleaners; cleaning and degreasing compounds; carpet and upholstery care chemical products; hard floor care chemical products; disinfectants; metal polish; janitorial paper products; trash can liners and hand soaps and sanitizers; and other cleaning products and materials covered by one of the applicable standards. These standards include: Design for the Environment, Forest STewardship Council, Green Seal; and Environmental Choice (EcoLogo).
