Existing Renovated Square Footage

We have a project where we are using the existing footprint of a building without adding any additional square footage to the existing footprint except for cladding existing walls with a new skin. Portions of the slab have been removed for new plumbing, some walls have been replaced with curtain wall, and about 25% of the roof and structure have been replaced. Are the existing renovated and new construction values only based off the square footage of the footprint? In our case would existing renovation be 100% and new construction 0%?

What is in your projects scope of work? Is the structural work a part of your project or is it being done beforehand by others. As general rule, if any major structural work is in the project scope then NC would be the most appropriate module otherwise use CI.

Hi Scott. We actually already submitted for our design review under LEED NC 2009 as a major renovation. Our question is not about what rating system but what values to use for new construction and existing renovation square footage in PIf2. We are interpreting it as since we are not adding any new square footage to the existing footprint it should be 100% existing renovation and 0% new construction. (New construction sf - 0 sf, existing, renovated sf - 39,385 sf, existing unrenovated sf - 0 sf) Structure is part of the scope and the majority of it is remaining except for some joists that were replace to raise a portion of the roof.

Ah, I misinterpreted your question. Yes, 100%/0% makes sense but you should take a look at the letter templates that that question links too in order to see how it affects those particular credits. That will help you make a better determination of the numbers you should be using.
