CS-2009 EAp2:Minimum Energy Performance

eQuest 3.65 model

Hello, I made model of quite simple rectangular office building in eQuest v3.65 and energy simulation run succcesssfully, but compliance analysis end with error code ""Error Assign zone to baseline floor system: CRRule::Eval() error posting symbolic (value 4.37216e-297) result to BDL". Does anybody know, whats the problem, where to find wrong parts in my model? Or can help to perform compliance analysis in other version of eQuest? Thanks for alll advices.

From one of the modelers in our office: Since the quoted error mentions baseline, I am assuming that the compliance is for ASHRAE 90.1-2007 Appendix G with a Baseline building HVAC System type of 5, 6, 7, or 8. For any of these Baseline system types, Appendix G requires a separate Baseline system to be modeled for each floor of the project. To me is sounds as if a ground floor level zone has been assigned to an upper level Baseline System. If the assumptions are incorrect, then my assessment of the possible error will not be correct. The quoted error has also mentioned BDL. When a simulation is performed in eQuest, a *.BDL file is created. This .BDL file can be opened using either WordPad or NotePad (I prefer WordPad). The format is basically a copy of the .inp file except each line is numbered. When I have an error, warning, or caution, I open the .BDL file using WordPad and do a search using the keyword “error” (or “warning” or “caution” as the case may be). The error should show up and usually includes a brief explanation of the problem.

I opened BDL file a theres no error or warning. On the very end there is just caution described "NO COOLING TOWER DEFINED, DEFAULT USED" - this probably is not the problem, is it? If not, problem has to be somewhere else - any other idea? Thanks. f.

We have no way of knowing if that is the problem or not. Trouble-shooting a model can often take hours of searching for the issues even when you have many years of eQUEST experience. It is virtually impossible to do so in a forum like this. You might consider seeking a consultant with eQUEST expertise to help you. You might alos find more assistance on the eQUEST Users forum at onebuilding.org.
