Supplier Documentation for High-Reflective Roofing Materials

We are near submittal on a K-12 school in Taiwan and trying to finalize requirements for this credit. The school's roof comprises mostly white concrete tiles (and smaller vegetated roof areas), that were purchased from a local vendor. After several attempts by the school, they have not been able to acquire any SRI-related information from the vendor about the tiles. Does this automatically disqualify these reflective tile materials from consideration, or can we refer to the "default" values listed in the Reference Guide for what it terms "white cement tiles"? If so, how do we insert/reference that information on the form in LEED Online?

I've experienced two different responses from GBCI. For one LEED CI projects, I use default SRI value listed in the LEED RG for SSc1 point, and get approved. For one LEED CS project, the same approach was denied. I upload the material specificsation, and highlight the material and colour, then address the default SRI value listed in LEED RG with same material and colour. You can try to see the result. Or, you can ask the vendor provide more information, something like refectivity level, emissivity level, so you can have better ideas of the material SRI. And, if coating is applied to the roof, you may also ask the coating vender to provide SRI info.

Thank you, Lili. It appears that it's going to be a crap shoot in terms of how USGBC chooses to answer (if they ever do!). Vendor documentation is a definite no-go, as this part of the world just hasn't had enough demand for such things--yet. Anyone else with experience on this?

Hi Elliot, it's my understanding that documentation is required to confirm the SRI value, and that using the Reference Guide default values is no longer allowed. If manufacturer data isn't available, the only other option is to have the material tested. I've never seen or heard of any project that has actually done testing... but these are the compliance paths laid out by USGBC/GBCI. Good luck, Trista
