Hello, Our project is a residential building and will have no mechanical ventilation in the apartments. For this case, LEED asks us to comply with ASHRAE 62.1-2007 paragraph 5.1. Every apartment has a service bedroom of 20.6 ft2 which is going to be ventilated trough and adjacent room and for this case, ASHRAE 62.1-2007 states: "Where interior spaces without direct openings to the outdoors, are ventilated trough adjoining rooms, the opening between rooms shall be permanently unobstructed and have a free area of not less than 8% of the area of the interior room nor less than 25 ft2 (2.3m2)." In this case the 8% of the service bedroom is 1.64 ft2. but it also says that the opening should not be less than 25ft2 is that right? does that mean that the service bedroom should have an opening greater that its own floor area? We are concerned because the wall adjacent to the room is small too so the room will have to be completely open in one of its sides. We appreciate your comments.
