CS-2009 IEQc4.2:Low-Emitting Materials—Paints and Coatings

VOCs emissions after given number of days

Hi, I have an adhesive technical data sheet stating the VOCs emissions 3 days and 28 days after laying of the adhesive. I do not think this is enough to document the requirement, but do you think it could go through in some cases? For example, when the emission value after 3 days is already much lower than the given value in the table of the credit? Or for example, when an effective IAQ management plan is implemented and proper flushing is done during the days after laying of the adhesive? Thanks in advance for your answers.

Jean-Babtiste, What you have is a VOC emission test (and it sounds like a European one), but the regular criteria for this credit is VOC content based. The good news is that the USGBC has been recognizing slowly that VOC emissions from products are what is truly impacting indoor air quality and they will allow you to have a product show compliance with this requirement thru emissions qualifications. But the emission qualifications that I have heard USGBC OKing for this credit are from LEED for Schools IEQ 4 Option B - which means the product must past California 01350 requirements. The current technical data sheet that you have was done according to EU methodologies. Ask the manufacturer if they have paperwork or a certification that has shown compliance to the California 01350 product emission test.
