Healthcare-v2009 MRc3:Sustainably sourced materials and products

Percantage Make-Up

If one sustainably sourced material category does not reach 10 percentage points, can the deficit be made up by another category if it is in excess of 10%? For example, if the project has no FSC certified wood, but reaches 20% under rapidly renewable materials, can 2 points be gained?

The way I read the RG, the composition of each 10% is not tied to one sustainble product feature. The first sentence say 'each 10% of the total value of all building materials and products'. So if you have a project where the FSC portion accounts for 15% of the overall sustainably sourced materials (by cost), you don't have to discount that to 10%. What is exciting about this is the renewable content which is typically small in healthcare can contribute to the overall percentage and not have to meet a minimum 10% percentage that it would in other LEED programs. There are limits on how much the buildling structure can contribute and any material counted in this credit must also meet IEQc4 credit standards.

I have some confusion in pursuing this credit. Can we use a combination of 2 options like regional materials (5%) and recyclable content(15%) and will then get 2 points (20%) or we have to go for any one option in order to achieve the percentage. Thanks.

That is how I read it. See my earlier comment.
