We are working on a healthcare out patient clinic. The credit says that we will take the net usable area excluding the building equipement, vertical circulation and structure. Medical equipement related equipement will be excluded from the usable area?
The climate of riyadh city in KSA is hot dry. So would it be feasible to provide open space outside for the patients since the climate in summer is unbearable to sit outside especially during the day times even if we have provide trellis / shade canopies.
Thanks.

Medical equipment is not usually excluded from this calculation. Is there something specific you are installing that is particularly large? Given that your summers are very hot, you may want to consider things like an interior atrium. See the RG for the limitations on the qualifying areas. You can use a combination of outdoor and indoor areas. If your team feels strongly that the 30% limitation should be reversed for extreme climates, submit a CIR.

Hello:
The credit form for SS9.1 asks for a shade exhibit for 10am, 12pm, and 3pm. Do all the shaded seats that you are submitting for the credit need to be shaded at all three times of day? Or do you count up the seats separately that are shaded at the different times of day and use that as your total number of seats (3 seats at 10am+5 seats at 12pm+ 8 seats at 3pm =
16 shaded seats)? It seems impossible to have all the seats shaded at all three times of day...

Jennifer - Good question! Essentially you are asking if the 5% has to be met at all times or be met throughout the day. It would seem to me that you have to provide shaded seats throughout the day but that the number could vary throughout the day as well as be in different locations. As for the question of 5% at all times, I can see this being answered both ways so would call the GBCI.
