NC-2009 EAp2:Minimum Energy Performance

Health care - Process Loads

Hi, I'm working on a specific project which consists of a health/diagnostic centre which uses machines such as X-rays, magnetic resonance and other medical equipment which were modeled as process loads. The simulation results provided the information that the process loads account for 56% of the baseline consumption. My first question is: may I exclude these equipment in the simulation model? The other question is related with how to prove a process load reduction, for the proposed model. In this specific project, the office equipment will have energy star certification. So, what should I provide in order to demonstrate that they are more efficient than the standard equipment? How are defined the standard equipment? Thanks a lot!

No you have to include them. LEED requires that all energy within and associated with the project be included. You are correct in assuming that you must establish the baseline. For ES equipment I would use the baseline that ES uses to make its comparison and calculate savings. There are calculators on the ES site you can use to do the savings calculations which establish your baseline. Make sure you include the results in your model as office equipment affect HVAC energy use as well.
