Definition of a bicycle rack?

This may sound silly to most that have not had materials reviewed by GBCI, but how exactly is a bicycle rack defined? One rack can serve 1 or 10+ bicycles. Does anyone have experience submitting for this path, as it is oddly phrased "bicycle racks per square foot area of the project" rather than "bicycle racks per x% of FTE" as other rating systems. Any thoughts?

Ward, It appears this is poor wording in the rating system document. The intent for SSc4 (SSc4.2 in the original LEED-NC) has been for the project to provide a certain quantity of bicycle storage spaces, which could either be a bicycle locker (to store 1 bike) or a bicycle rack (to store multiple bikes, depending on the design). So where you read "bicycle rack" think "bicycle storage space".

Ward - The wording is odd and USGBC's definition of bicycle racks doesn't really clear it up, "Bicycle racks, in LEED, include outdoor bicycle racks, bicycle lockers and indoor bicycle storage rooms." As a biker, I can tell you that the number of bikes you can provide secure parking for on a single rack depends on the rack. Usually the manufacturer will make a claim as to how many bikes can use one rack. On the "staple" or upside down U shaped racks, two bikes can comfortably, and safely, fit. However, If it's an overhead hanging rack, those are generally designed for only one bike. LEED for Retail provides a number of bike racks depending on the retailer's square footage. I have helped certify over 30 Retail projects that have been able to achieve this credit by providing secure bike parking for the number bikes, not by counting the number of racks. I hope that helps!
