NC-2009 IEQp1:Minimum IAQ Performance

Prerequisite IEQ 1

For specification section 230593 Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing for HVAC the architect is asking for a Air Balance Report for Prerequisite IEQ 1: Documentation of work performed for ASHRAE 62.1, Section 7.2.2 – “ Air Balancing.” My sub-contractor submitted to me their NEBB certifications for all of their disciplines. Does work for what they are wanting or is there another document that I need?

I believe that they want to see the TAB report verifying that all air flows are set within the limits required by ASHRAE Standard-111. I recommend you submit an RFI to the architect if you are unsure of the specification requirements.

LEED doesn't need anything related to your air balance for this credit. It is a design credit. You just have the ventilation system designer sign off that the project meets Sections 4-7 of ASHRAE 62.1-2007 if your meet those requirements. It sounds like you have completed your design and the contractor has been selected. At that time, the air balancing sub-contractor typically submits their certifications to the design team for approval prior to doing the work. If their submittal meets the requirements in your specification then you typically just "take no exceptions" on the submittal. No need to submit any of that to LEED.
