cooking surface in apartment within 25 feet of the facade?

Hello! While using ASHRAE 62.1-2007, we are having a hard time trying to understand the provision that the cooking surface in an apartment needs to be within 25 feet of the façade with operable openings. My question is which portion of the cooking surface needs to meet this requirement? a. Leading edge of countertop? b. Centerline of appliance? c. Furthest face of the appliance/counter top? And, if they ventilate all the kitchens, does this requirement still hold true or are they free to locate the kitchen/cooktop back at the 30 foot dimensions as they typically do? Please help! Thanks so much, Courtney

Courtney, I think you can use centerline of the appliance. If the kitchen is ventilated, the cooktop can go back to the 30 ft dimension.

Dylan- I am unsure whether I should be using the single or multi zone calculator to check for compliance. I have a constant volume RTU that each serves a single "thermal zone" in the sense that it only has one thermostat; however, it serves several "ventilation zones" in the sense that there are spaces with different ventilation requirements. Should I use the multi zone calculator and enter each ventilation zone or should I use the single zone calculator? If I should be using the single zone calculator how do i somehow combine the multiple ventilation zones? Thank you
