LEED Reviewers

I am curious if there is a list of companies that are subcontracted by USGBC/GBCI for reviewing LEED Projects. Basically I would like to find out if the GBCI alone reviews all LEED Projects or if they subcontract out review of some LEED Projects (similar to how some city councils sub out review of permit set drawings). If the latter is true, is there a list of such companies? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

When LEED v3 (LEED 2009) was implemented the Certifying Bodies listed were the following: ABS Quality Evaluations, Inc. BSI Management Systems America, Inc. Bureau Veritas North America, Inc. DNV Certification Intertek KEMA-Registered Quality, Inc. Lloyd's Register Quality Insurance NSF-International Strategic Registrations SRI Quality System Registrar, Inc. Underwriters Laboratories-DQS, Inc. I don't know how many reviews were/are performed by the above entities however I believe the GBCI is trying to perform most, if not all, of the reviews in-house. Hope this helps!

For a current list of contracted reviewers you would need to ask GBCI directly.

GBCI is responsible for all LEED reviews (with the exception of LEED for Homes). Over the past two years we have hired experienced industry professionals to create our own in-house team of LEED reviewers; we also use contracted review teams to supplement our review needs as required to ensure that we have the necessary capacity to accommodate all LEED project submissions. GBCI provides oversight to all LEED reviews and assigns a staff person to each project who is available to address any questions or concerns that a project team may have about their specific project. Our current LEED review processes and protocols require that our reviewers remain anonymous and as such, at this time, a list of contracted reviewers is not available for publication. If you have any additional questions or would like to correspond with your LEED Reviewer, please don’t hesitate to contact us here (http://www.gbci.org/org-nav/contact/Contact-Us/Project-Certification-Questions.aspx), selecting Questions About Review Comments. We do try and accommodate all requests for phone correspondence with LEED Reviewers, especially when detailed questions are provided in advance. Hope that helps - Megan R/S

If the LEED reviewers were not so onerous --prove it to "me"-- there would be no need to "protect" the reviewers by keeping them anonymous. If anonymity was so important then the people and firms submitting projects would also be anonymous to the individuals conducting the actual reviews. Only the top level management of the GBCI could find out who was actually submitting documentation from the LEED review database.

I'm curious if the changes cited by Megan have resulted in the new anonymity for review teams. On past projects assigned review teams were always designated on review summaries and team administration pages. Now, the team name has been replaced by the umbrella "assigned to Green Building Certification Institute."
