Back of House Employee Breakroom

We are working on a hotel project and I have one question regarding the fixture family classification for faucets. How should the back of house restroom associated with the employee breakroom be classified--public lavatory faucet or private lavatory faucet?

Hi Angie, The back of house employee restrooms are considered public lavatory faucets.

Hi Angie and Carlie, I'm also working on a hotel project. Understand Kitchen sink in the hotel room will be counted in the calculation. What about the flow fixtures in the kitchens (serving all the restaurants) that should be counted in the calculation? Do we consider all fixture in the kitchen as "process" water and therefore, do not need to be counted.

One more question please: Understand faucet in hotel room bathroom should be considered "Private lavatory faucet"? However, how do we account for FTE? If thre is 100 guests per day? What is the FTE eqv? Should it be FTE = 100?

Hi Barbra, The kitchen sinks serving the restaurants would be considered process water; however, a kitchen/break room sink for kitchen employees would need to be included in your calculations. If the project includes any commercial pre-rinse spray valves the flow rate must comply with the ASME A112.18.1 standard of 1.6 gpm or less. The lavatory faucets within each hotel room are considered private. You will need to separate your FTE vs. transients in the calculations in the Fixture Groups Table to account for the flow and flush fixtures utilized by each group. Hope helpful!

Barbra: Residential fixture usage assumptions must be used for hotel guests (refer to the Water Use Reduction Additional Guidance, link provided under Bird's Eye view above). When you define your fixture groups, hotel guests fall under residents and common area users (meeting room guests, restaurant patron for full service hotel, etc...) fall under transients.
