NC-2009 EAc1:Optimize Energy Performance

Applicability of LEED interpretations

Hi, we have been using the "Advanced Energy Modelling For LEED" document and have a question one some of the exceptional calculation methodology examples. The interiro lighting controls (D.4 in the document) references a LEED interpretation that I cannot find in the database (10102). Can the document itself be used as reference for ECM? We have the same system installed and would like to use the 45% reduction in lighting power for hotel rooms as per the Interpretation referenced instead of 10%.

Yes you can reference that document. Glad to see someone is using it!

We got a coment by the reviewer saying savings should be fully justified and based on a schedule change accounting for the guest room occupancy and not on a reduction in LPD.

If you are using a published methodology it is the responsibility of the modeler to indicate to the reviewer what they are basing the savings on. In my experience a schedule change would be the more accurate way to simulate energy savings as compared to a reduction in LPD. But if the project is using an approved, published methodology it would be acceptable.

Hi Marcus, yes the document is extremely useful! I would also look at a schedule change but never having gone through this process before I think it is 'safer' for us to use tried and tested methodologies as we are not sure what 'fully justified' entails.

In your case "fully justified" would be to cite the document that was the basis for the modeling methodology.
