NC-2009 IEQp1:Minimum IAQ Performance

Contradiction for Pressurized Hallways

Some sources (including LEED User) suggest that hallways pressurized with mechanical ventilation can be used to ventilate spaces in dwelling units that are adjacent to the unit entry door through infiltration. However, the requirements for IEQp2 ETS control require that "all doors in residential units leading to common hallways are weatherstripped to minimize leakage into the hallway". This is a contradiction and IEQp2 effectively eliminates the possibility of using pressurized hallways for ventilation of dwelling units under LEED. Or is it the case that pressurized hallways will anyway stop the transfer of ETS between dwelling units so that weatherstripping of doors is not required?
