The NC reference guide refers to preferred parking for LEFEV for 5% of the total vehicle parking capacity of the site. The Campus Application Guide makes no reference to preferred parking.
Our proposed building does not include any additional parking but will utilize existing campus parking facilities and lots. How do I / can I identify parking associated with this building and select spaces as "preferred LEFEV parking for XYZ Building"? Every LEED building on campus would then have to do the same. Also, the majority of students will park near their dorm and walk to class. How are cars counted? What is the recommended approach?

Peter,Generally I have chosen the most logical parking lot (ie. nearest the building in question and maybe even within the site boundary) where, say, commuters would park to use said building. However, I have not worked on a project using the campus approach, so if you're submitting more than one building, perhaps others can offer advice.

Peter, Since the credit is for the total campus, you have some leeway on making this decision. I would give every building some preferred parking and then weight the remainer to where the use is heavier or where you want to encourage it. That maybe the dorms or the administration buildings. The students may have less financial options on their car purchases but the staff woudl be more incentivized. You also have some ability to define 'preferred' it can be the closest parking or covered parking. The key will be your narrative.
