Option 2: Floor Area Clarification

I noted that in the example of the Prescriptive Calculations sheet, the depth of the bay was show to be as mach as 40', with a window head height of only 7 or 8 feet. Based on that, I used my true depth , or as much of it as would allow for minimum required daylight, to calculate my daylit area. The Reference Guide is really vague on this point. Has anyone had review experience for v3 on this?

Susan, I agree with you. The prescriptive method is vague. Ideally, the daylit area which is defined as 2x the height of the window head is the only area that you can claim as the daylighted area. This method to define the daylit area is actually similar with the way of title 24, California energy code. In addition, the reference does not mention about the daylight zone except in its drawing. However, as you mentioned, the sample of the calculation uses more than 2 x the height of the window head. I will follow the guideline if there is no additional addendum. In my opinion, the only robust method to verify daylight design is daylight simulation.
