We had a comment on the interior additional power allowance a couple of time in the review. You actually would make them equal. So if you have 3 decorative wall scones with 30W each in your lobby. You would apply 90W as additional power allowance and connected power allowance. the additional allowance however can only be up to 1.0 W/sf for the lobby in this example. So the additional allowance is equal or less than the installed. I hope that helps.

Thank you, that makes sense, but the problem I'm facing is that the LEED Online Template for EAp2 auto-populates 1.0 w/sf for decorative lighting so even though the lighting designer provided supplemental calculations indicating actual allowance of less than 1.0 w/sf, the template amount doesn't match the ASHRAE form - which is why the credit was audited. We provided a narrative explaining this, but it was still audited, so our thought was to revise the ASHRAE form to match 1.0 w/sf additional allowance, but then the Lighting Compliance Test fails.

Natalie,
All you can really do is go through the process. You seem to be in the right and have provided a narrative. If things go wrong, you'll still have an appeal to get it right. During the audit process, make sure that whatever comments are given include what is necessary to be done to correct the credit. It's not enough for the reviewer to tell you it's wrong, they need to tell you what has to be done as well.

Natalie, I would reference the ASHRAE 90.1-2007 User Manual to support your claim. Page 9-36 - section Additional Interior lighting power allowance:"If the installed power is smaller than the allowance, the surplus power may not be allocated to another portion of the building. This type of allowance is often called a "use-it-or lose-it" allowance." Also make sure you followed the requirements of ASHRAE 90.1-2007 Section 9.6.2; "additional power shall be allowed only if the specified lighting is installed and automatically controlled, separately from the general lighting, to be turned off during nonbusiness hours". I thinks is right to assume that the LEED Online form is wrong and the reviewer just doesn't feel comfortable to disagree with it. So you can either submit this error to the GBCI through the LEED online feedback function and attach their reply to your review reply or use my explanation, if you don't have that in your original submission already.

Very true Paul. At this point I'm going to request additional clarification from the review team since the original supplemental calculations and narrative thoroughly addressed this issue. Perhaps something was overlooked or misunderstood or they can elaborate on the comments.

Natalie,
That sounds entirely reasonable to me. I wish you the best.
