I don't have any experience with 3Ds max but i heard there is a difficulty to set skymodel.

We used 3ds max Design for daylighting analysis and LEED accepted it. It is hard to learn the tool at the beginning, but once you manage to do it the next ones are much easier and faster to achieve.
