Regularly maintaining equipment and following safety procedures is considered standard practice and, on its own, is not adequate to achieve this credit. The following are examples of qualifying features or best practices: 

Selecting equipment that reduces soil disturbance or compaction 
Employing electrically or propane powered or other equipment that significantly reduces emissions 
Maintaining equipment with low-smoke oil
Choosing equipment with a decible level of less than 70
Specifying equipment that recycles waste, such as mulching mowers, or that reuses materials, such as power washing systems that reclaim water
Manually pruning, weeding, raking, sweeping, or shoveling snow to minimize the use of powered equipment as much as possible.
