Teams may find it useful to approach this credit and SSc7: Places of Respite at the same time, in order to double down on points. Areas outside the building envelope that meet the places of respite requirements can contribute to earning this credit, as long they are immediately adjacent to clinical areas or with direct access from inpatient units.
Keep in mind that outdoor areas must meet a couple of requirements to work for this credit. First, the qualifying space must meet the requirements for outdoor air contaminant concentrations enumerated in EQc1: Enhanced Indoor Air Quality Strategies, Option 2. Second, the space must be located more than 100 feet (30 meters) from building exhaust air locations, loading docks, and roadways with idling vehicles. And lastly, the space must be nonsmoking.
