The performance of LEED buildings following certification is emerging as an important point of study. Data must not simply be gathered, but gathered and processed in a man-ner that allows meaningful comparison between predicted and actual energy perform-ance. EA Credit 5, Measurement & Verification (M&V), addressed that need in principle. However, EAc5 was limited in that its IPMVP based protocol was never intended for use in LEED. The credit has been redeveloped into a mechanism that directly addresses the building performance needs of LEED.
Advanced Energy Metering and Reconcile Projected and Actual Energy Performance credits are meant to be achieved together. Project teams should Pursue Advanced En-ergy Metering before pursuing Reconcile Projected and Actual Energy Performance.
Additional Questions
- Has installing whole-building or sub-system meters significantly increased the cost of pursuing LEED certification?
- Has the project team prepared training documents on the data management sys-tem for the building operations manager and staff? If not, does the team plan on providing any educational material?
- In four sentences or less, why did the project choose to pursue this pilot credit?
- Were there barriers to implementing the strategies used under this credit?
