Retail-NC-v4 EQc2: Low emitting materials
Hello,
The LEED guidebook, states "If the applicable regulation requires subtraction of exempt compounds, any content of intentionally added exempt compounds larger than 1% weight by mass (total exempt compounds) must be disclosed."
Does this apply to projects in Farnce (Europe) where the European Decopaint Directive (2004/42/EC) is used for the VOC content requirements??

Do products applied to the weather barrier need to comply with VOC thresholds?

Without knowing the details of the European Decopaint Directive, I would say yes. This is a disclosure requirement.

The best resource that I am aware of is the online reference guide, but you need to purchase it from USGBC.

Hi, sorry for being late.
European Decopaint Directive does not subtract exempt VOCs from total VOC content. Therefore there is no need to disclose exempt VOCs along with showing EU Decopaint compliance. This need was established to make sure that if somebody in the US formulates a product only with exempt VOCs (e.g. acetone), even though the product still is compliant, the user should know that such VOCs are present and then decide one selection of the product on an informed basis. do you know if a paint complies with EU Decopaint it is immediatly approved for Low emitting materials credit reggarding VOC emissions? Or is there any other certification (such as Ec1plus) needed? Regarding New Construction projects.

Sorry, no. EU Decopaint just covers the VOC content issue in Europe. The general emissions criteria come on top of the VOC content requirements. EC1 PLUS is one option if the product can have an EMICODE. You can look up more compliant low VOC emissions programs here: www.usgbc.org/resources/low-emitting-materials-third-party-certification....
