VOC content in wet-applied products vs CIAQMP requirements

Hello!

I have a question concerning SMACNA requirements. There is the sentence in LEED reference guide:

“Finishes such as paints and coatings specified by the design team must be consistent with SMACNA guidelines, regardless of whether those materials will contribute to other LEED credits”. I would like to ask if it means that paints and coatings have to be compliant with VOC content requirements (SCAQMD Rule 1113) even if we don’t pursue Low-Emitting Materials credit?

I would be very grateful for your answer.

Hi Agata, The SMACNA Guidelines state: "Use low-toxicity and low-VOC materials to the greatest extent possible." SCAQMD compliant finishes should be specified, even if they are not being tracked and documented for LEED.
