NC-2009 IEQp1:Minimum IAQ Performance

The vent calcs indicate a total area significantly lessthan Plf2

Hi, Can please someone give his/her suggestion on the question I have below ? I received a comment for (Design Preliminary Submission) ventilation calculations indicate a total area (3,055 sqf) significantly less than plf2 (6219 sqf) for the IEQp1 Our response is; The areas have been revised to match those of table EAp2-1 and to more closely match the architectural floor plans. 3055 sqf was brought up to 4429 sqf and the areas where are not included are the elevator, stairs, jan closet, small restroom, elect & mech spaces and storages (sum of non-ventilated areas is 1489 sf). My questions is; Plf2 shows 6219 sqf Energy model is based on 5812 sqf IEQp1 - ventilated area is 4429 sqf ( is this sqf reasonable for resubmission ? Does it need to be same as the energy model ? ) Thank you

Usually, as long as you explain the discrepancies in area satisfactorily, differences will be accepted by the reviewer. Your summary appears reasonable to me.

I think this might be of your interest: In the last project we also received a comment for matching "total peak users" stated in PIf3 and the sum of occupancy for all "ventilation calculators"

Gustavo, how did you respond? did you by any chance change to ASHRAE default occupancy values? I am dealing with this issue now. Thanks!

Hi Courtney! you can override ASHRAE default occupancy and input the calculator with actual users. For instance, in an open office space the excel calculates 13 people but in your architectural plans there are only 10 workstations. Then, I would insert 10 people in the "design population of zone" cell.
