We are in the process of certifying several buildings under a campus approach (LEED Master Site D+C), where each building / project is certified unter the LEED-CS v2009 rating system.
The building owner asked the following two questions:
*) How long is the LEED certificate / are the LEED certificates valid? As long as the buildings exist / are in operation or is there any kind of expiration date of the certificates?
*) The building owner is USGBC member and wants to know how long it is necessary to keep the membership resp. to pay the annual membership fees. We suppose it is necessary to keep the membership until the end of the certification process / until the certificate is granted.
Thank you for help!
Best wishes, Ernst Schriefl

Hi Ernst, LEED certifications under the BD+C rating systems do not expire. For your second question, if you want the lower certification fees available to USGBC members, I'd recommend maintaining an active membership at least until your invoice for certification review is generated.

Hi Trista,
Thanks for this information.
Do you know where can we find a written confirmation of the validity of the BD+C certification?
Many thanks in advance!

Hi Nicole - if the project was set to "public" on LEED Online you can search for it in the LEED Project Directory: https://www.usgbc.org/projects. If not, you can try reaching out to USGBC/GBCI for confirmation.
