LEED v4 (as far as I can tell) does not include guidance on Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs), and how to use fly ash to contribute towards MRc3 Option 2. Does anyone out there know how we should calculate this for LEED v4? Does anyone have a calculation spreadsheet that can be provided to concrete manufacturers? Thank you!

I also have this same question as Megan.
Do we use the same calculator that we would have used on LEED 2009 projects? Or is there a new SCM calculator to determine the recycled content of concrete mix designs?

Hi Adrienne - Just a note that the LEED 2009 calculator that you would have used previously was a Canada Green Building Council tool so I do not think that we can assume that it would be applicable for LEED v4 projects. Although I have not seen anything similar produced by the USGBC, which is very puzzling and frustrating!

FYI - I was told by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) to follow the guidance in the US LEED 2009 BD+C Reference Guide:
"In the case of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) used in concrete recycled from other operations, the recycled content value can be based on the mass of the cementitious materials only, rather than on the entire concrete mix. For example, if 150 pounds of coal fly ash is used per yard of concrete, the fly ash would represent only a small fraction (5%) of the roughly 3,000 pounds of concrete. The project team can choose instead to calculate it as a fraction of the cementitious materials by obtaining the value of the cementitious materials (separate from the total cost of the concrete) from the concrete supplier (Example 1). Fly ash is a preconsumer recycled-content material."
