We are looking into the potential of achieving LEED certification at a new School project. The school's property line is directly adjacent to a sidewalk/curb. The local city ordinances require that all pedestrian areas (i.e. the side walk) are lit to 1.5 footcandles. This value exceeds the SSc8 requirements for all zones (ours happens to be a LZ4). Are there any rulings that would allow for an exception to this requirement where public safety is concerned and a local ordinance requires lighting greater than LEED? Thanks so much in advance for any help.
