We are working on a hospital that is a 24-hour facility. For the alternative commuting baseline calculation, would we include all regular building occupants for the entire day, or just building occupants that work the normal 8am-4pm shift? According to SCAQMD we are only supposed to survey those who arrive between 6am and 10am. It would make sense to only include those who work in the day time shift in the baseline. Thanks.

Jessica - I can't say with certainty how SCAQMD handles 24-hour facilities in their region (and if you are in the SCAQMD then you can safely abide by their rules and assume it will be satisfactory to GBCI), but from my perspective, the intent of the credit is to assess the commute patterns of regular building occupants, regardless of the time of day they arrive/depart. The 6am-10am block seems clearly targeted for buildings where a 'regular' 8-5 workday is that standard; in a building where the regular workday differs, the survey should be adapted accordingly. So I think the answer is regular building occupants for the entire day.
Hope that helps,
Dan

I have a similar problem - we have a factory where only 50 people out of 350 have regular shifts. The rest of the staff have a shift schedule - 2 workdays and 2 days off. Who shold we survey? Obviously, not only the 50 people. Would it be ok to survey the staff who come in to work at 6 - 10 am?

Hello Elvira.
You should survey all regular building occupants. Follow the credit resources to calculate the allowable extrapolation rates. I'd recommend providing a narrative explaining the atypical work schedule.
Hope this helps!
