CI-2009 PIf1:Minimum Program Requirements

Sharing Whole-Building Energy and Water Usage Data

A client has asked for clarification of how this would happen so they can determine which box to check in the form.

For Third Party Source, does this mean USGBC sends someone to read the meters or we hire someone come out to read and submit? Collecting information from the local utilities, who would do that if they select this open?

For Approved USGBC Data Template, does this require owners to upload the information online or does USGBC get access to the owner’s online utility accounts?

Third Party Source means you'll report your usage into Energy Star Portfolio Manager and that you will add USGBC/GBCI to the account so that they can auto-pull the data. This can either be done by someone at the building from utility bills or some utility providers have the option to let them auto-report your usage into that platform for you. Approved USGBC Data Template means that USGBC/GBCI may reach out to the project Owner/LEED Administrator in the future to request the full utility records (specific format is based on their format at the time of making the request). This would require that you track and record usage yourself (can usually come from utility bills). You would want to make sure you have a log/record on-site and it would need to go down to the individual month basis. You also want to make sure to keep the historical records for at least 5-years.

Thank you! The property management team has responded that they plan to use “Healthy Buildings” to input data into Energy Star. Does that quality as a Thirda Party Source, that they can provide USGBC/GBCI access to?
