NC-v4 EAp2:Minimum energy performance

Schedule for Lighting, Occupancy, & Plug Loads

We are working on a Hospital Project outside USA and we are going though option 1 i.e. whole building energy simulation.

We do not have operational hours for the project except that it is 24/7 facility. LEED V4 recommends to use ASHRAE 90.1 UM schedules for Energy Modeling but we find AEDG 50% guide schedule more relevant for Hospitals. Does LEED have any issues of using AEDG profiles than UM for energy modeling?

You can use whatever schedules make sense for your project. The schedules should be appropriate to the building type and its expected operation. The baseline schedules should be identical to the proposed.

Hi Marcus, i have a question pertaining to this thread. We have a cricket academy which has state of the art facilities. And the building is first of its kind adopting LEED V4 certification. Now the developer will be procuring most of the equipment and we don't have a detailed equipment schedule. The designer considered very high absolute equipment loads for sizing the systems, which we found out in heat load summary sheets. The rating body has raised a query regarding justification for more than 50% equipment energy consumption. Now we tried to consult with the experienced professionals for freezing a realistic schedule, as we cannot reduce the absolute zone equipment loads. The schedule now has a much less stringent operative profile than before, but when we are running the simulation, the equipment proportion(%) is still remaining the same or sometimes increasing. What would be the best to do in these scenario and do we have any reference to refer the schedules for various process loads?

I am assuming that by "equipment" you mean plug loads and that process loads are also the same thing. There are default equipment/plug loads you can use in the ASHRAE 90.1 User's Manual and in COMNET - https://comnet.org/appendix-b-modeling-data

Hi Marcus, I am not concerned about the process load power density, but rather the operation schedule(hour wise) for various facilities. Is there any reference for the hour wise schedule for process loads? Also, appreciate if the hour wise schedules are available for occupancy as well as lighting too?

You can also find default schedules in the 90.1 User's Manuals and COMNET - https://comnet.org/appendix-c-schedules . You won't find one for a cricket academy but perhaps a school. In our modeling practice we tend toward not using default schedules or schedules published by others. Generic schedules tend to compromise the accuracy of the modeling results. We create our own schedules for process loads and lighting based on consultation with the building owner/operator about how the building will actually be operated. This produces far more accurate results.
