NC-2009 MRc3:Materials Reuse

Salvaged Materials Code Conflict

I am working on a 17-story multi-family new construction project in California that will not involve any demo of existing structures at the site. The project team is interested in pursuing the materials reuse credit, however the majority of their materials cost lies in structural steel and concrete, as well as glass facade. These particular areas have stringent performance requirements per California code, I am wondering if anyone has any experience using structural and facade glazing components with salvaged content, and whether this poses any performance issues? Additionally, LEED includes Division 32 - Planting. What is the criteria for including the plants themselves as salvaged material? What types of salvaged planting material have people used successfully on projects? Any advice is much appreciated!

Regarding the reuse of of structural steel, concrete and glass facade you should refer to MRc1.1 Building Reuse. That sounds more applicable to your question. Your question about performance is best posted under EAp2/EAc1. If the plants are salvaged from the site or nearby) but moved to another location on your site it seems you could those in your calculations.
