Hello everyone, We are working on a project attempting option 2: Perimeter measurements.
How should exterior lighting in terraces from retail should be addressed? specifically in this case we are talking about a coffee shop terrace, whose customers will be performing activities such as reading and working. The lighting power density complies with mandatory requirements of ASHRAE 90.1-2010, section 9.4.3, and the average illumination levels (3 footcandles) meets IESNA Lighting Handbook recommendation.
The exterior lights will be on from 6:30-8:30 am and then again from 6:00-10:00 pm. Then, lights go completely off.
The thing here is that this zone is intermediately to the project boundary, is there an addenda addressing this scenario or, is there a chance this area could be excluded from measurement points?
I've had some luck with shifting the measurement points along the perimeter. Instead of measuring at 0', 100', 200', etc. Try to measure at 50', 150', 250'... Or even 50', 100', 200', 280', 380'. The other option is to shield the lights so they don't shine at the measurment point. Adding a shadow to one light source is relatively easy.
