Hallo
I have a project in a site where there are no available recycling infrastructure.
In any case I would like to provide accessible recycling area to encourage waste separation behavior by occupants.
The project site is in a country where no recycling infrastructure are available (the majority of waste are send into landfill); furthermore I'm not sure that reuse or donation is feasible.
How can I demonstrate the pre-requisite requirement? As shown in the LEED Interpretation ID# 1803, seems to be enought predict only the recycling area.
If i will consider alternative means of recycling (reuse or donation), have I to attach some documents that certify the donation (agreement, letter, or otherwelse)?
Thank you so much.

Hi Giuseppina, you're on the right track by following LI 1803. For this prerequisite, you don't need to provide any documents that certify donations will take place. You can simply describe the processes for donations and encouraging waste diversion from landfills, and how your "recycling" area is sized appropriately to support those activities.

Hello,
I was wondering if others have been successful in applying Interpretation 1803 on LEED v4 New Construction projects? On the interpretation page listed below the "Applicable Credits" section does not list "Storage and Collection of Recyclables" for v4.

Thank you in advance for the help!

Hi Heather,
There is a statement now in the v4 Reference Guide under Step-by-Step Guidance stating the following:
"Even if a recycling service is not available, all required recyclable waste streams must have dedicated storage in anticipation of future service (see Further Explanation, Projects without Available Recycling Infrastructure)."
Looks like they wrote the previous LI into the criteria, so you should be able to follow the guidance there and be fine.

Hello there,
Does anyone, especially @Guiseppina Amorusi, have advice in dealing with a similar situation - lack of recycling infrastructure - but applied to the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Planning credit?
Is it acceptable to put a plan together knowing that no diversion can occur (via recycling, at least) since there is no recycling infrastructure available near the project location?
Thank you so much!
