Hi, we are consisering options for our high process load building in meeting the minimum requirements of the energy credit.
We have spaces that have a high heat load, and non-mechanical cooling (e.g large exhaust fans, unit heaters) for process only (not for human occupancy). For example battery rooms, switchgear rooms. Per the definition in ASHRAE 90.1 Process energy: energy consumed in support of manufacturing, industrial or commercial process OTHER than conditioning spaces and maintaining comfort and amenities FOR THE OCCUPANTS OF A BUILDING.
1. Therefore can the HVAC that serves these spaces be deemed as process?
And if yes,
2. Can this HVAC system be modeled the same in the baseline so we can take any savings associated with reduced heat load, better envelope etc on the HVAC as an exceptional calc?
Thanks

These spaces seem to qualify for Section G3.1.1 exception e unless they transfer conditioned air from other spaces. If this exception applies, both G3.1.1 (e and f) must be used in the baseline case and the systems modeled as designed in the proposed case.
