NC-v4.1 EAc2:Optimize Energy Performance

Option 2: New Building Institute Multifamily Guide under the LEEDv4.1 Residential Multifamily

Hi,

This question is related to the LEEDv4.1 Residential Multifamily scheme, but there doesn't seem to be this category available in the forum, hence I posting it here.

We will be using the LEEDv4.1 Residentila Multifamily scheme for the first time.

I would like to clarify the options we have in relation to the EA MINIMUM ENERGY PERFORMANCE & OPTIMIZE ENERGY PERFORMANCE credits.

Specifically, under the Option 2. Prescriptive Compliance: New Building Institute Multifamily Guide, the LEED guide says that the design should "comply with the thirteen requirements in the New Buildings Institute Multifamily Guide (not including the six “Additional Efficiency Packages”)'" and that it is possible to gain 1–13 points under this option.

In addition, The New Building Institute its self says on their website, that "Projects that meet the requirements of the 13 base measures qualify for the energy prerequisite under Option 2. Prescriptive Compliance. Projects that pursue one of the Additional Efficiency Packages can then earn up to 6 additional points".

From the above, it is not clear to us, how points are awarded under Option 2. Possible interpretations include:

1/ 1 point is awarded for each one of the requirements (i.e. 6 requirements applied = 6 points)?
2/ All requirements need to be applied, 13 points awarded?
3/ 13 base measures are applied, just the prequisite is met?

Many thanks for sharing your experience/thoughts on this.

Anna

There is a table (3) within the Optimize Energy Performance credit which gives a percent savings above ASHRAE 90.1-2016 by climate zone and additional efficiency package, which is then used in Tables 1 and 2 for Option 1 to determine points.  Regardless, all 13 requirements must be met.
