Hi,
Is there a simpler method to calculate or estimate operative temperature and mean radiant temperature for the Thermal Comfort credit?
The method described in ASHRAE makes us calculate the mean radiant temperature first which might be different for different rooms based on exposure direction and quantity. Then we use the mean radiant temperature to calculate operating temperature.
Thanks,
Nishank

Many projects use the UC Berkeley Center for the Built Environment's Thermal Comfort Tool. If you google "CBE Thermal Comfort Tool" you'll find an interactive page where you can enter Operative temperature, Air speed, Relative humidity, Metabolic rate, and Clothing level. The ? Help button gives a user guide and explains the inputs, and additional functions like the solar gain calculator.

Yes, I've been using that as well. However, it used to have a globe temp calculator which calculated mean radiant temperature. This tool has now been greyed out and no longer available for calculating MRT. Also, how do you come up with operating temperature for a space ? This is not the same as air temperature of the space.

Thanks. Apparently Globe Temp works in internet explorer or microsoft edge but not in google chrome.
