Hi, in order to getting to know the new V4 we are taking a look at each credit and start to getting familiar with them.
The leed reference guide doesn't use the same project in both examples for further explanation. And as for what we understand from the credit (and comparted with SSc5.2 v2009) it seems like hardscape doesn't count as open space anymore, becasue now it seems to be orientated for social purpuses.
Before, everything outside our building footprint and whithin the project site boundary was considered as open space because it was intented to be hardscape and vegetation and we never had problem with documentation. Is this no longer aplicable for the new requirements?

Jorge - hardscape (paving area) can still contribute if it is a pedestrian-oriented or recreation-oriented paving or turf area with physical site elements that accommodate outdoor social activities and/or encourage physical activity. Hope that helps!
