Dear all, We have a case where an open parking garage is located on the ground floor (under the building). Apparently, no exchaust system can be applied in this case. However, I'm wondering how to prove that occupied spaces are protected from pollutants from that open parking. Would it be enough to claim that the distance from parking to the nearest operable window is long enough to protect building occupants? What that minimum distance would be? E.g., in BREEAM it is 20 meters. Thanks!

Open parking garages mean that they met the code definition of naturally ventilated parking garage. So they have partially or completely open walls to allow air to move in and out to avoid build up of gases. I'm not exactly sure about your case, but typically that is enough to avoid needing to prove anything to LEED for this case. Are their occupiable spaces on the same level as the garage? Any minimum distance for LEED would be meeting the requirements of ASHRAE or local code.
