Hi,
Can one HPD be submitted for multiple products? Specifically, I'm reviewing five Dal-Tile products that are covered by this HPD: http://hpd.smithgroupjjr.org/HPD/2016_06-23%20-%20HPD%20V%201%200%20-%20...
As far as I understand, because the materials are separate products (they all fall under different Dal-Tile collections), it seems fine to count them as five products with HPDs, but I would love to get confirmation. A similar situation also arises with generic EPDs for MR Credit BPDO - Environmental Product Declarations because one EPD may cover various products installed in a project.
Thank you for your expertise!

Hi Adam,
In short, yes.
Make sure all of the products are clearly listed and highlighted on the document when you submit. Also, I was told by a colleague to watch out for the thresholds of reporting - they will typically be higher if covering a wider range of products.

Hi Calie,
Thank you for your response! Diving deeper, do you know if product-specific HPDs or EPDs that reference a broad category of products are acceptable? I'm referring specifically to an EPD (sorry to change subjects!) for Dow Styrofoam Insulation. Dow produces a number of products (e.g. Perimate, Plazamate, Duramate) that fall under this umbrella but would still be considered separate products. These specific products (Perimate, Plazamate, Duramate) are not mentioned in the EPD.
Thank you for your guidance!

The key guidance from USGBC is that products must be "functionally different" to count as separate "products" (toward your "20 products from at least 5 different manufacturers). The example in the LEED v4 Reference Guide is from my industry, two carpets that are the same style but a different color cannot be claimed as two distinct products, but two carpets that were otherwise identical, but with different pile height (yarn weight) can be said to be functionally different. I have not asked for a ruling from USGBC/GBCI, but it seems like this would allow you to claim more than one "product" with a single EPD (or HPD) for the product category if you could make the case for a functional difference between the similar products (acoustics, durability, insulating value, etc.).

Just received Silver on a project a couple of week ago - we had Daltile on the job and used the same EPD for wall and floor tiles. received the credit. They have to be different products and make sure you list them separately and list the products in the description.
Good luck

Adam, I think it makes sense to post your EPD question in the EPD forum since it's specific to that credit.
