NC-2009 SSc4.3:Alternative Transportation—Low-Emitting and Fuel-Efficient Vehicles

Motorcycle Parking

Hi Allison, I wanted to add this to the Low E Vehicle Parking thread but could only start a new thread. We have a building with 310 parking spaces. 5 of which are for motorcycles. We have included the motorcycle spaces in our total count. However, signing these spaces proportionately becomes ridiculous. They represent .016% of the total parking. So are we actually supposed to put 1 sign on a motorcycle space? And if so, how do we define a low emitting motorcycle? There doesn't appear to be an ACEE rating for them. If we do sign 1 space just for the sake of it, are we then taking a sign away from the car parking spaces?

Your approach to only sign car parking spaces and not motorcycle spaces seems sensible to me. Typically, if you have different parking areas used by different users, you need to distribute proportionally to each type. Let us know how it goes!

Hi Allison, Reviewer responded to inclusion in count with the following but did not respond to my question about proportionate signage, lack of ACEE rating or what such a sign would say: For the purposes of LEED, motorcycle spaces should be excluded from the total parking capacity count for SSc4.3 & SSc4.4, provided that such spaces are indeed designed for motorcycle use (smaller than those for a standard car). More specifically, standard size parking spaces (i.e. 9’ x 18’, 8.5’ x 16’, etc.) that are available for use for motorcycles must be included in the parking capacity count, however motorcycle size parking spaces (i.e. 4.5’ x 8’) are not required to be included in the calculations.

Michelle - Thanks for the update. Hopefully LEEDuser will update their example is the opposite of what you were advised!
