Hi, if a project has a demolition subcontractor who hires a commingled waste hauler for some of the demolition debris, and then during the construction phase of the project the GC hires a commingled waste hauler for some of the construction debris -would that count as 2 streams? What if it is the same hauling firm for both phases of the project but they are separate contracts hired by separate firms (GC & Demo sub)?

Patricia - As noted in the What are material streams? in LEEDuser's Viewpoint, the online LEED Reference Guide video “Defining Waste Streams” states that a waste stream is defined by where the waste goes. Commingled waste that does not have project-specific records is a single stream.
Your first question: IMO: If your demolition and construction haulers are different, then MAYBE you might be able to count it as two streams because the waste would go to different locations BUT that might be pushing it.
Your second question: IMO: With one hauling firm, the waste would be going to one location so that is more cut and dried as one stream.
We are hoping that some of the challenges of commingled waste and streams will be resolved with the release of LEED v4.1. I'll post more information when I have it.
