CS-v4 EAp2:Minimum energy performance

Minimum efficiency for projects in Europe

Hi,

How should the minimum efficiency of HVAC equipment produced and tested for European market be treated in relation to ASHRAE 90.1-2010? The minimum efficiencies given in ASHRAE are tested mostly according to AHRI procedures, but in Europe different procedures apply - mostly EN 14825, and HVAC equipment shall meet the Eco-design Directive 2009/125/EC requirements.

However, how can I make sure if i.e. the VRF unit selected for my project and tested according to European standards, meet the minimum requirements set by ASHRAE 90.1-2010?

Thank you,

Michal

Ideally you could compare some sort of equivalency between the standards. I would say if the equipment meets a very similar testing protocol in the EU then it should be considered equivalent. If you have any doubt about a particular piece of equipment it is a good idea to provide a narrative explanation for the reviewer if the values you enter are less than the 90.1 values for efficiency.
