We are installing a living green wall in the lobby of our 2009 CI project. We need to install grow lights for proper plant health. We will also install ambient lighting to showcase the green wall and offset discoloration caused by the grow lights. These lights will not be used for task lighting.
Does anyone know if these lights have to be included in the Lighting Power Density Calculations?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You, Shane

Look up the excemptions in 9.2.2.3.
Make sure to ask the company providing the green wall how much light they need. It can be as much as 200 fc which is 4 times brighter than most indoor spaces.

The “grow lights” could be exempted from the lighting power density calculations based on 90.1-2007, 9.2.2.3, Exception f. “lighting for plant growth or maintenance”, as long as they are separately controlled. The “ambient lighting” would have to be counted.
