Hello I am trying to get some guidance with regard to LEED v4 and outdoor sinks.
Sinks used in outdoor spaces for office buildings or campus , maybe for the BBQ gathering area.
A sort of rinse sink or filling sink.
Questions:
- Should this sink be calculated in Indoor or Out door water use? I was thinking indoor with a narrative right?
- Does this sink have to qualify for required WaterSense? These types of sink would likely be filing and or rinse only. Also Outdoor Rated Equipment requirements don’t seem to offer WaterSense??
Any guidance and advice?

Hi Lou,
I would consider that type of sink to be process water, similar to a laundry sink, or janitor sink on the interior, which is not included in the water savings calcs for interior or exterior. Since it is used primarily for filling, if it were a reduced flow fixture, the user would just have to let it run longer in order to fill, and the water savings aspect would be irrelevant. So, as I see it, no need to include it in your calculations.
