Interesting Pilot Credit

Hi Nate - Thanks for your comment - the pilot credit language has been updated to clarify that the stair options need to be met for the main stair, or main stairs, not for all stairs within the project, and the project can earn the options across multiple main stairs (not all 7 must be included within one main stair) it is up to the project team to identify which stair(s) are "main" http://www.usgbc.org/node/2648813?return=/pilotcredits

Thank you for the clarification Batya. So does this mean that if we have two main stairs in the project, that 4 of the criteria can be met by one stair and 3 can be met by the other stair? I also have a couple additional questions on 4 and 5: 4.Locate a main staircase to be visible from main building lobby and within 25 foot (7.5 meters) walking distance from any edge of the lobby. Ensure that no turns or obstacles prevent visibility of or accessibility to the qualifying staircase from the lobby. ---- what is the definition of the "edge of the lobby"? Is this referring to the vestibule specifically or to the common gathering area inside of the vestibule? Is this distance requirement to the stair landing where you enter the stair or just any portion of the stair? 5.Locate a main staircase to be visible before an occupant visually encounters any motorized vertical circulation (elevator/escalator). The staircase must be visible from the principal point of entry at each building floor. ---- does visibility refer to any part of the stair or to the entry point onto the stairs? For example, we have a project that has an open balcony that looks down into the stair well (which you encounter just before approaching the elevator), but you have to turn the corner to get to the top stair landing. The fun thing about Pilot Credits is that you do what you can to meet the spirit of the credit language knowing that you may not meet everything eactly as written. The credit summary is just as important as the credit documentation to help mold the final credit language when the Pilot Credit grows up to be a real credit. We earned this credit on a high rise project where we have 2 stairs that were not connected but transferred on a single floor. The 2 stairs run between 9 floor - we were nto abel to meet every requirement verbatim but we showed and explained how we met almost everything and met the spirit of others. Every project is different so the approach to and documentation of the credit requirements will vary as well.

Hello,  is this pilot credit still open? I see it in the LEED Pilot Credit Library but when I go to register for it, it is not an option.   Thanks,
