We are designing a research and development facility for an equipment manufacturer and trying to pursue LEED certification for the facility. Never having done a high process load facility such as this, I have come to understand from other comments and CIR's that all process loads will need to be modeled and energy savings will likely need to include an ECM for the process. Would there be an advantage to trying to achieve EAp2 for a process building through v4 and 90.1 - 2010? Can someone simply explain why the prerequisite threshold for v2009 is 10% and for v4 it is reduced to 5%?

I don't think there is an advantage or disadvantage using either version of the standard.
The threshold is lower in v4 to account for the average 19% improvement in stringency in 90.1-2010. The actual variation in stringency ranges from a few percentage points to over 30% depending on the project type and climate.
